Survey Says Designers Play Key Role in Ventilation Advice
Hartford, Wis., April 16, 2010 – A survey conducted by a leading appliance manufacturer in conjunction with the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) revealed that almost 90 percent of the 573 kitchen designers polled said their clients either always or usually rely on their professional opinions regarding a kitchen's ventilation needs. In addition, 86 percent of the designers said that their clients are less knowledgeable about kitchen ventilation appliances in comparison to other kitchen appliances.
Today's designer can't afford to be unprepared when it comes to the importance of proper kitchen and bath ventilation. Almost half (46 percent) of the designers surveyed said that they are using wall hoods the majority of the time in their kitchen projects, followed by custom inserts (28 percent), chimney hoods (18 percent), downdrafts (4 percent) and island hoods (3 percent). Wellnitz explains that it's important to keep designers up-to-date on vendor product performance and benefits as they incorporate different hood designs into their kitchens.
"'Clearing the Air' takes a look at the importance of proper bathroom and whole-house ventilation, as many designers are not aware of the recent studies that have shown that ventilation fans in the bathroom are underused whether it is from lack of installation or homeowners simply forgetting to turn them on," says Wellnitz. "This presentation shows a number of ways that ventilation can be incorporated throughout the home such as a decorative light fixture or a recessed light in a hallway, laundry room or walk-in closet. It also shows how ventilation systems provide humidity control; odor/fume control; proper air exchanges; and prevent the growth of mildew, keeping paint or wallpaper looking new."
